This Week In Westeros:
Game of Thrones characters fight the drought, missing character returns. Is that The Three Queens in one scene?
In our new series “This Week in Westeros” we take a look at the most recent headlines around the web and social media. Casting news, rumors and anything related to game of Thrones that has the net talking. We’ll label anything that’s a possible spoiler as such and leave it toward the end of the article. We’re not interested in hardcore spoilers, but we feel things like set photos and fan speculation are somewhat okay.
Please be mindful.
Winter is coming! But the drought is far from over.
If you haven’t heard, California has been going through a very serious drought as of lately. And while it is serious business, it’s difficult to get the average person to appreciate how severe some problems really are until it’s too late. So the city of West Hollywood has joined with Change the Course to create a “a first-of-its-kind water sustainability campaign that leverages its partners — Participant Media, National Geographic Society, and the Bonneville Environmental Foundation — to engage communities in understanding how daily choices affect our water footprint and to inspire people to take action in their own lives and pledge to conserve water.”
It’s a cool twist on raising awareness for a very real problem. So as Game of Thrones fans we thought we’d return the shout out and help spread the word.
ON-SET PHOTOS?: UNCONFIRMED SPECULATION
This photo recently surfaced of Three Queens we know and the internet is going crazy trying to figure it out.
From left to right it’s pretty clear that it’s Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell) Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) and Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister). What’s not clear is what the heck would they be doing in the same shot?
Many of the filming locations for Game of Thrones overlap. Croatia is used for various King’s Landing and Mereen scenes. While they’re supposed to be across the Narrow Sea, they’re more than likely across town in reality. (Maybe not that close, but you get the point).
While that adds up, here’s what doesn’t. Daenerys is wearing the same dress that she wore in the fighting pits as Meereen was taken under siege. After her “son” Drogon shows up, she acts out her best version of The Neverending story. But by the end of the season she’s in that same dress, which is now beat up and she’s surrounded by Dothraki. Chances are, that dress won’t be what she’s wearing in season 6.
Margaery was also being held captive by the Sparrows, and while we imagine she’ll eventuall get out, why would Cerei be in the shot with both of them, with what appears to be a smile on her face? Cersei doesn’t smile, she smirks, right after she’s got one over on you.
The most likely scenario is that they’re lining up for a promo shoot. It looks as though Natalie and Emilia are taking places while Lena is waiting. This is not confirmed, but it is more realistic than the three characters being in the same scene at this point. And, as Winteriscoming.net points out:
It was around this time last time last year that Entertainment Weekly shot its massive 240 Hours in Westeros spread, so this is probably something similar.
While it would be awesome to see The Three Queens all together at the same time, it’s probably going to have to wait a little longer.
MISSING CHARACTER RETURNS: ASSUME LIGHT SPOILERS
In a final destination style moment, this character luckily missed joining in his kin in the massacre at Walder Frey’s during the Red Wedding.
He went to the bathroom. They killed his family. And now he wants revenge!
He’s… The Blackfish!
You’ll probably remember Brynden Tully, brother of Hoster (Cat Stark’s father) also known as The Blackfish, as the ticked off uncle at Hoster’s funeral in season 3. Uncle Tully had to fire the flaming arrow as his brother’s body floated down the river when his bumbling nephew Edmure couldn’t close the deal.
Later on in the season, Blackfish “hit the head” and literally saved his own in the process before the Frey men butchered his niece Catelyn, her son Robb, Robb’s wife Talisa, and their unborn son named after Sean Bean.
PLOT SPECULATION SPOILERS
According to Los Siete Reinos Clive Russell (Tully) was seen filming as The Blackfish this week in Corbet, Northern Ireland. They’ve also reported filming of a siege at Riverrun (House Tully).
Watchers on the Wall previously reported cast member sightings that tie into this.
“We reported in September that Jaime Lannister and Bronn would be journeying to the Riverlands together; happily the new spoilers confirm this! They also report that scenes with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Jerome Flynn were shot there.”
So now that we’ve found The Blackfish, any word on Gendry sightings? #StillRowin
