2CELLOS Game of Thrones Medley

The Rains of Castamere and Game of Thrones Theme

Game of Thrones is known for some pretty epic music, quite suitable for the emotional roller coaster that we ride from week to week. It’s also inspired a great many of covers over the seasons, and this one is no exception. Meet 2CELLOS, a duo of cellists from Croatia, known for some pretty incredible covers, including a viral sensation in 2011 with their version of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal.”

This time around they’ve set up in Dubrovnik, the city that doubles as King’s Landing in order to give us their interpretation of the sounds of Westeros. Starting out steady with an introductory piece of the Rains of Castamere, they eventually build into full on theme song mode, dueling fiercely while images of battle axes, direwolves, fire and blood, and warriors standing on mountains are interlaced with the beautiful landscape of “King’s Landing.”

We’re several months away from a new season, but in the meantime, this may just help (or intensify) the craving.

*You can order their upcoming album “Score” here, featuring covers of various other “epic” soundtracks including the Game of Thrones medley. I don’t know about you, but after that, I think it’s Game of Thrones marathon time.
